Yacht operations software in 2026: an honest map

Start with the problem that leads
Every system in this market was built around one leading problem, and it shows forever in how the product feels. The honest way to choose is to name the problem that leads on your boat, pick from the systems built around it, then check the rest is covered well enough.
Seahub, YMS360, Aquator
Built around planned maintenance: schedules, running hours, spares, service history. Engineers tend to like them. The common gap is everyone else: if the deck and interior day still runs on WhatsApp, the system only ever holds the engineering half of the boat.
IDEA Yacht, Sealogical
Built around ISM-style records, class and flag requirements, and management-company oversight. Deep, established, and strong in surveys and audits. They tend to be driven by the office rather than the crew, and the day-to-day workload of feeding them usually lands on one or two people. Built around the money: APA, expenses, budgets, owner financial reporting. Excellent at what it leads with, and many boats run it happily alongside an operations system. It was never meant to run the deck, and it doesn't pretend to.

The five questions that actually decide it
If the honest answer is one officer, under duress, the system will only ever hold one person's view of the boat, and it dies when that person rotates off. Ask to see the product on a phone, doing a real task, and imagine your greenest deckhand doing it.
This is the question the whole market avoids. Records are not memory. Ask the vendor to show you what a new chief engineer sees on day one about a fault fixed two seasons ago.
Per-user pricing quietly punishes the thing you want most, which is everyone using it. Watch for per-module pricing too: the quote that grows every time you need one more thing.
The boat's history should belong to the boat. Ask what an export looks like before you sign, not after. Any vendor who hesitates has answered the question.
Owners fund these systems and are usually the last people they serve. A monthly picture of the boat that doesn't require anyone to write a report is worth more than most feature lists.
